Fish Curry

There are so many ways to make a fish curry - Red or green base, where the fish blends in so well. Over the years, I have noted that Fish curries which are mainly prepared in western India or Southern India has almost similar ingredients. The only difference is when couple of ingredients added or replaced that gives it uniqueness of a part city or zone in India. Fish curries are quite simple and less masala loaded in Eastern part which is also amazing

Today I was in mood to have fish gravy with a mix of western and southern India. There was fresh catch at the fish market of, local black salmon. I love this particular fish because the firm body, no fishy smell and negligible bones in it. I am a fish lover if no bones, that doest make me love eel!

Here is my quick way to churn out a flavorful curry

Fish Curry Ingredients:

5-6 pieces of cut, cleaned fish pieces, marinated with salt and turmeric and set aside for 30mins

half cup chopped shallots

5-4 curry leaves

2-3 green chili slit

2-3 pieces of kokum

1/2 tbs red chili powder

salt as per taste

Masala paste

quarter cup freshly grated coconut

4-5 dry kashmiri chilies soaked in hot water for 10mins

one tbs coriander seeds

one tsp cumin seeds

5-6 big garlic cloves

half inch ginger

one medium tomato, blanched and skin off

1 - Make a smooth paste of all ingredients under the masala paste with half tsp of turmeric powder and keep aside 2 - In a sauce pan, add some coconut oil. Once it heats up add chopped shallots and fry until they turn light brown. Add the curry leaves and slit green chilies and sauté for another 2 minutes 3 - Add the ground masala and cook until oil separates. Now add water in the blender jar pour this in the masala which has cooked. Adjust water as per desired consistency. Season with salt and bring to a boil 4 - Add marinated fish pieces to the boiling curry, cover and cook for about 5-7 minutes.

5 - Add kokum and boil for a minute, flame off, garnish with chopped cilantro and keep covered for 15mins before serving
